Building on her recent success with Disclosure, London’s Liv Dawson is one to watch in 2018.

Liv Dawson began writing music at the tender age of 13. Her early inspirations are soulful singers Etta James, Amy Winehouse, and Lauren Hill. The influence of these singers can be found in her music which discusses her experiences through young adulthood with a sleek R&B sound.

At just 19, Dawson has worked with Bruno Major, Disclosure, Jimmy Napes, and recently came off a UK-European tour with American singer-songwriter, Khalid.

In a recent Q&A, she said “the tour with Khalid was so much fun and I’d love to make music with him.”

Dawson was born and raised in Shepperton, a sleeper town on the outskirts of West London. Although being a small commuter town, Shepperton has produced notable artist’s Ruth Wilson, Frank Finlay and is home to Welsh singer, Tom Jones.

She is currently working on her debut album and hopes it will not sound the same all the way through.

She said “I’m currently working on the album, it’s all a matter of getting it perfect & then I will be releasing it. It’s a long process.”

In order to build confidence and test her work with an audience, Dawson performed in local pubs and clubs. She is an avid poetry fan and reads it as inspiration for her lyrics. Her biggest inspiration of all is Frank Ocean.

After her first single, ‘Tapestry’ gained attention on YouTube and Soundcloud, Dawson signed to Method Records. She looks set to further her winning streak with the soulful, dreamy new single “Talk”, out March 9th.

Could she be part of a new wave of successful female UK artists? She has racked up almost 10,000 followers on Spotify and her songs are among the most relatable releases so far this year.
